Editorial Policy
The standards behind every TechSpecs review, spec sheet, and guide - independence, sourcing, fact-checking, AI use, and how we handle sponsorship and corrections.
Last updated: June 2026
This policy is the constitution behind every page we publish.
It applies to every contributor to TechSpecs and governs how we research, write, review, and maintain our content - and how we keep editorial decisions independent of our commercial relationships. Read it alongside our testing methodology, our corrections policy, and our editorial & affiliate disclaimer.
Our editorial principles
Eight standards shape every review, spec sheet, and guide - from where the facts come from to how we keep advertising at arm’s length.
Editorial independence
Our recommendations are earned on merit, never bought. No advertiser, affiliate partner, sponsor, or manufacturer can purchase a favourable review, nudge a score, or decide what we cover. Writers are never told to reach a particular conclusion.
Accuracy & sourcing
Specifications are cross-checked against the manufacturer and independent listings, and claims of fact are verified to primary sources we link to. When figures conflict, we say so rather than pick one silently.
How we testNamed authorship & expertise
Every review and guide carries a named byline, and substantive articles are checked by an editor before publication. Our contributors are technology writers with hands-on experience covering consumer hardware.
Meet the writersResponsible use of AI
Our content is written and edited by people. We may use software to assist with research, transcription, or spotting errors, but a human author owns every published claim and a human editor reviews the work. We never publish unedited machine-generated articles.
Advertising kept separate from editorial
Display ads and affiliate links fund the site, but they sit apart from the words. Advertising is always clearly distinguishable from editorial, and ad partners have no say in what we publish. Anything produced with a brand is labelled sponsored.
Advertise with usContent kept current
Technology, prices, and availability change fast. We revisit reviews, specs, and guides when meaningful new information emerges - a major update, a price shift, or a newer model - and we date every page so you can judge how fresh it is.
Open corrections
We fix mistakes promptly and transparently, and credit substantive corrections. If you spot an error in a review, a spec, or a guide, tell us - accuracy matters more to us than being right the first time.
Corrections policyReader feedback
We welcome questions and challenges to our work. Reader scrutiny makes our coverage sharper, and the fastest way to reach the editorial team is the contact page - every message is read by a person.
Contact the teamHow we source information
Accuracy starts with sourcing. Here is the standard every figure and claim has to clear before it reaches a published page.
Specs are cross-checked
Every specification is sourced from the manufacturer and verified against independent retailer and database listings. Where the numbers disagree, we flag the discrepancy instead of quietly choosing one.
Claims trace to primary sources
Statements of fact are verified against primary sources wherever possible - official documentation, filings, and first-party data - and we link to them so readers can check our work for themselves.
Verdicts come from hands-on use
Our judgements in reviews reflect real-world use of the product, measured and assessed per our published testing methodology - not a rewrite of the spec sheet or the press kit.
No rumour presented as fact
We do not publish speculation as if it were confirmed. Where something is unverified, leaked, or expected rather than official, we label it plainly so you can weigh it accordingly.
Related standards
This policy works hand in hand with the rest of our published standards.
