The EcoTank ET-2850 makes the case for cartridge-free printing better than almost anything at its price. Refillable tanks and a single 522 ink set rated for thousands of pages mean running costs are a fraction of a traditional inkjet, which quickly offsets the higher sticker price for anyone who prints regularly. Auto duplex, a 1200 dpi scanner and full Wi-Fi/mobile printing round out a capable home all-in-one. The compromises are real but predictable: print speed is leisurely, the single rear feed and lack of an ADF limit heavy office duty, and you pay more on day one. For a household or small home office that prints often, it is an easy recommendation.
Ink bills basically disappeared
We print a lot at home for the kids' school work and my freelance invoices. With cartridges I was refilling constantly; one set of 522 bottles has lasted me months. Setup of the tanks was a little fiddly the first time but worth it. Duplex printing is a nice paper saver.
Great value, just a bit slow
Print quality on documents and 4×6 photos is genuinely good and the Smart Panel app makes printing from my phone easy. The only real downside is speed — about ten pages a minute in black, so a big document takes a while. For the running costs I can live with it.
Solid home all-in-one, wish it had an ADF
Scanning is sharp at 1200 dpi and Wi-Fi Direct works well. My one wish is an automatic document feeder — scanning multi-page contracts one sheet at a time on the glass gets tedious. Otherwise it's been reliable and cheap to keep fed.
