The Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 is the most capable doorbell Ring sells, and the square head-to-toe field of view is its headline trick — you finally see a visitor from head to foot and any parcel left on the mat. 1536p HD+ video, color night vision and radar-assisted 3D Motion Detection make for excellent situational awareness, and dual-band Wi-Fi fixes the original Pro's biggest weakness. The catch is the familiar Ring one: it is hardwired only and almost every recording feature lives behind a Ring Protect subscription. If you already have doorbell wiring and don't mind the monthly fee, it is a near-faultless front-door camera.
The head-to-toe view is a genuine upgrade
Installed it on our existing chime wiring in Uttara. Being able to see parcels left on the floor is the killer feature — the square image shows the whole doorway. Night vision in color is surprisingly clear with just the porch light on. Setup through the app took about 20 minutes.
Great camera, but the subscription stings
Video is crisp and the motion zones are very accurate thanks to the radar. My only complaint is that you basically have to pay monthly for Ring Protect to save any clips. For the live view and doorbell function it's flawless, just budget for the plan.
Solid once the wiring was sorted
Our transformer was a bit weak so I added the plug-in adapter and it's been rock solid since. Dual-band Wi-Fi made a real difference — the original Pro used to drop on our 2.4 GHz. Bird's Eye View is a fun extra but I use the standard alerts day to day.

No. Live View and real-time motion alerts are free, but to save, review or share recorded clips you need a Ring Protect subscription (Basic covers a single device; Protect Plus/Pro add features like Alexa Greetings and 24/7 recording on supported cameras). Without a plan the doorbell still rings and streams live, it just won't store footage.
The Pro 2 uses a 1:1 square sensor with a 150° horizontal by 150° vertical field of view, so the image is as tall as it is wide. That lets you see a visitor from head to toe and spot packages placed on the ground right at the door — something traditional wide-but-short doorbell views miss.
Yes. It is a wired doorbell that connects to existing doorbell wiring rated 16–24 VAC, 50/60 Hz. If you don't have a wired chime or compatible transformer, Ring sells a Plug-In Adapter kit that powers it from a nearby mains socket. It does not run on a removable battery.
3D Motion Detection uses a built-in radar module to measure exactly how far away movement is, so you can draw precise motion zones up to about 30 feet. Bird's Eye View then overlays an aerial map of the path a person took across your property on top of the video clip.
Yes. With an Echo Show you can answer the door and see live video by voice, get spoken announcements when someone presses the doorbell, and use Quick Replies. Alexa Greetings — where Alexa answers for you and takes a message — requires a Ring Protect Plus or Pro plan.
The Pro 2 offers color night vision rather than the usual black-and-white infrared, using ambient light to reconstruct color detail after dark. In very low light it falls back to standard infrared, but in most porch-lit settings you get a usable color image.
It supports dual-band Wi-Fi on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac). The 5 GHz support is the main reliability upgrade over the original Pro and helps keep 1536p streams smooth when the router is close enough.
