The iPad Air 11-inch (M2) is the smartest buy in Apple's tablet line for most people. M2 performance is genuinely overkill for everything short of pro video work, the landscape front camera fixes a long-standing video-call annoyance, and Apple Pencil Pro plus Magic Keyboard support unlock real productivity. The trade-offs are deliberate: a 60Hz IPS panel instead of the Pro's ProMotion OLED, and only a single rear lens. If you don't need 120Hz or OLED, this is the iPad to buy.
Perfect for university
Using it with the Magic Keyboard for lecture notes and assignments. The M2 never stutters and battery lasts my whole campus day. The landscape camera is a small thing that makes a big difference for online vivas.
Great, but I miss 120Hz
Performance is fantastic and the build feels premium. Coming from an iPad Pro, the 60Hz display is the one downgrade I notice daily when scrolling. Everything else is excellent for the price.
Best value iPad right now
Bought the 256GB Wi-Fi from Star Tech. Pencil Pro support, fast USB-C, and M2 power for far less than the Pro. The single rear camera doesn't bother me — I rarely shoot photos on a tablet anyway.

Yes. The M2 chip with 8GB of RAM handles 4K timelines in LumaFusion or DaVinci Resolve for iPad smoothly. The 60Hz display means playback scrubbing isn't as fluid as on a ProMotion iPad Pro, but rendering performance is essentially the same as the M2 Pro from 2022.
Yes. The 2024 iPad Air supports the Apple Pencil Pro (with squeeze, barrel roll, and Find My) as well as the cheaper Apple Pencil (USB-C). It does not work with the older first- or second-generation Apple Pencil.
The Pro M4 has a tandem OLED (Ultra Retina XDR) display with 120Hz ProMotion, the newer M4 chip, Face ID, and a thinner body. The Air uses a 60Hz IPS Liquid Retina panel, M2, and Touch ID. For most users the Air delivers 90% of the experience at a much lower price.
