The Xiaomi 17 is the most sensible phone in the 17 family: the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and a full Leica triple camera - all three lenses 50 MP, including a genuine 60 mm telephoto - in a pocketable 191 g body, with an even larger 7000 mAh battery than the 17 Pro. You give up the Pro's rear screen and 5x periscope, and it throttles under sustained load, but as a compact flagship it's outstanding value.
The compact flagship I actually wanted
Same chip as the Pro models, a proper 60mm telephoto and an even bigger battery than the 17 Pro - and it's smaller. The 7000 mAh China cell easily lasts a day and a half for me. I don't miss the rear screen at all. Brilliant size-to-power balance.
Great cameras, gets warm in games
All three 50MP cameras are genuinely good and the telephoto is sharp for portraits. Screen is bright and smooth. The only thing is heavy gaming makes it warm and the framerate dips after a while - the chip is clearly held back a bit. For photos and daily use it's superb.
Excellent phone, import is the catch
Bought it as an import since it's China-only, and I lost a 5G band or two locally. HyperOS 3 needed a debloat. But the hardware punches well above its size - big battery, full Leica triple, flagship speed. Just wish Xiaomi sold it officially here.

The China model has a large 7000 mAh silicon-carbon battery; global units carry 6330 mAh. Both support 100W wired HyperCharge, 50W wireless charging, and 22.5W reverse wireless charging. Notably, the China 17's 7000 mAh cell is actually larger than the 17 Pro's 6300 mAh.
No. The rear 'Magic Back' secondary screen is exclusive to the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. The standard Xiaomi 17 has a conventional camera island with no second display.
Qualcomm's 3 nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (SM8850-AC) with an Adreno 840 GPU - the same chip as the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max - paired with up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1 TB of UFS 4.1 storage. Across the 17 series the chip is tuned conservatively and sustained performance throttles under long load.
A Leica Summilux triple camera where all three lenses are 50 MP: a 50 MP main (Light Fusion 950, 1/1.31", OIS), a 50 MP 60 mm telephoto with 2.6x optical zoom (a floating lens, not a periscope, with OIS) and a 50 MP ultrawide. The front camera is 50 MP. It records up to 8K video. The telephoto's floating lens also enables close-up macro from about 10 cm.
The standard 17 drops the Pro's 2.66-inch rear 'Magic Back' screen and swaps the 5x periscope for a 2.6x/60 mm floating-lens telephoto, so long-range zoom is shorter. In return the China 17 actually has a larger 7000 mAh battery (versus 6300 mAh on the Pro) and uses the Light Fusion 950 main sensor rather than the Pro's 950L. Both share the same 6.3-inch display, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, 100W charging and IP68.
At launch it is a China-only release, with a wider international rollout expected to follow. Outside China it is largely obtainable as a grey-market import, which affects warranty and 5G band support. There is no official Bangladesh launch.
In China it starts at CNY 4,499 (about $633) for 12 GB + 256 GB, rising to CNY 4,999 for 16 GB + 512 GB. As a China-only import, Bangladesh grey-market listings run roughly BDT 85,000 to BDT 1,08,000 depending on the variant - these are unofficial import estimates, not an official price.

At 191 g and 6.3 inches it's easy to pocket, yet it keeps the same chip as the Pro models, a full Leica triple with a real optical telephoto, Wi-Fi 7, an IR blaster and Dolby Atmos stereo speakers. Unlike the Pro and Pro Max it skips the rear 'Magic Back' screen and the 5x periscope - but in exchange the China model actually carries a larger 7000 mAh battery than the 17 Pro. The catch is the same as the rest of the family: at launch it's a China-only release.

Like the rest of the series the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is tuned conservatively and sustained 3DMark stability is poor (around 25-45%), so it throttles under prolonged load. It runs HyperOS 3 with the usual bloat, and the big asterisk is availability - it's a China-only launch, so elsewhere it's grey-market import only.
The Xiaomi 17 is the compact flagship to pick if you want the same chip and a full Leica triple camera without paying for the Pro's second screen - and you get an even bigger battery for the trouble.
